Sarah1950's Journal, 10 Oct 16

I'm struggling with getting through 2 weeks at a time without slipping up. I don't know what's going on with me. It's always a dissappointment when I give in to my cravings. I know it's emotional eating. I've got to insulate myself against the "fear porn". The media coverage of storms builds to a crescendo, and bam, I overeat. I've got a long winter ahead...better prepare myself. JUST DO IT..
Have a good week FS Buddies.

Well I'm pretty proud of you for being honest in your logging your food on that terrible day on Saturday. Sometimes I deal with my failures by not logging at all! You're going to be OK. Look how far you have come! The reality is, EVERYONE except ascetics has a day when they just go hog wild now and then. Try to love yourself out of it. Go to your weight history and just look at it for a few minutes and congratulate yourself. Go to the grocery and stand in front of the butter and count how many packages of butter equals the number of pounds you've lost and congratulate yourself. Seriously -- I have honestly done this a number of times. And love yourself even when you are eating a Dairy Queen because you won't do it again the next day. On an even more practical note: Try to keep a few things in the house or within shopping distance that will banish the craving but won't completely sabotage the diet. Last night, the debate had me so worked up, I needed chocolate cake. In my freezer, I have these little chocolate zucchini carrot cakes I buy at Costco that are about 120 calories. I heated up one of those, and I was A-OK. Yeah, it was more carbs that I should have eaten yesterday, but on the other hand, it wasn't catastrophic...

Oh, wow. You have lost 75 lb already and dropped several clothing sizes. I find it harder to power through cravings now that I am noticably smaller. I make for a little excuse in my mind that if I stay at this weight for awhile, it won't be so bad. Then I say, the gain will be mostly water and easily lost. But there is always, always a fear that maybe this time I can't get back on track, or will refuse to get on track. I came off of three consecutive bad days and yesterday was a good day. Fat saved me. I'm not even kidding. I ate high fat and stopped the binge in its tracks. This was new.

I was off the rails Saturday. I had to push myself to honestly record what I had eaten. I have not mastered the art of walking away after a "normal" serving size. Usually I'm left with wanting more and wouldn't stop until the whole package is gone. I have recently added more fats into my routine. I've been tolerating half an avocado and butter on my vegetables. I did not notice any decrease in my craving. I have been fighting this urge for sweets since Sept 20. I wanted a bigger piece of cake at my sisters birthday party but my family wouldn't let me have any more. I've been fighting this craving for what seems eternity. OCD. I think I had to get it out of my system. I feel better now with your support and encouragement to just turn the page and start over. So I'll listen to you, and just move on. Your kindnesses make a difference. Thank you. Ps. I am down by -3 this morning but I only record on Mondays. (...Not that this changes my lapse in judgement on Saturday)

It is funny, that when I stay busy and walking a lot, like in Vegas, I do pretty well, and can eat more. I think a lot of food intake is just out of boredom, and eating cupboard food. In Vegas we only eat out, and don't snack in the room. It pays off.
