0500 is my fucking time. Really. Everybody is asleep. No one requires help. I can get shit done. Weigh in. Be positive. Sit. Stage and launch the day. I feel entitled to my little sliver of light. Protective.
So should some fool choose this hour to croon "yoo hoo" from the top of stairs, aborting my chimera of peace, I do not take it lightly.

I have gotten better with the sputtering. Baste in the irony of time's reduction of verbal giant to sputter monkey. Wonder if somewhere some schoolboy, once shamed with dunce hat in the corner of master's one room schoolhouse, can also feel the shift. Breathe. Wait. Breathe.
Finally it comes.
"You can just sit and talk with me for a couple minutes and maybe we can figure out who I am and what I am doing here."
Holy. Fucking. Shit. Touched my heart. I cannot recall ever before feeling empathy for him. Ever.
What a cruel twist.
We did sit and chat. He did not know who I am. Name. Relationship. Nothing.
Like him, I have no idea who he is, or what he is doing here.
