Maintenance Day 64
Waist = 34 3/4"; No Change

So in the midst of the shit storm, #2 appears in the kitchen to update me on the latest developments. Then, completely out of the blue, in the most sincere, adult manner imaginable, he says - "Thank You."

I choked up and had a moment with the cutting board to keep my shit together. He noticed and inquired if I was OK. I told him that I appreciated what he said. Then he gives me this big hug and says, "Dude, are you fucking kidding me? You're ridiculous!"

Sidenote for all you Boomers out there. "Ridiculous" means off the top of the relevant rating scale. More precisely, for those among you who actually showed up for Stats instead of tripping balls at Woodstock, a minimum of three standard deviations above the mean.

That's the win of the week, and certainly the thing for which I am most grateful this morning. Also grateful for -

* Mermee's most excellent reminder yesterday of this most useful practice!

* Being experienced enough to know how to navigate a shit storm.

* Being experienced enough to differentiate between an inconvenience, a shitstorm, and a crisis. And respond appropriately.

* Transcript arrived yesterday. #2 posted his best HS academic year yet. On dad's watch. Obv.

* Progress through effort. Leveled up my shit. Teed up a bunch of potential solutions. Not done and working all weekend, but we have now multiple potential paths to resolution.

* The people who come through. There were two in this situation. One of whom I just met and with whom I spent a total of 30 minutes, who made a crucially helpful legal intro. Never would have gotten there on my own. So also, I guess..

* The kindness and helpfulness of strangers.

* Improved relationship with Pop. Pretty sure that's all on me working on dropping my resentment. He's been super cooperative and thankful. We've been laughing a lot. Attitude matters.

* My extraordinary self care turnaround. Been on a self care bender since February. Getting fit is the cornerstone. Lot's of other positives as well. Will flex later, but it is important to treat oneself well.

* Office upgrade. Working so much more effectively and efficiently with my shiny new rollie elevator desk and rubber gym flooring! And happier and cleaner too! Also standing A LOT more. Not sure if that is helping me absorb all these extra calories, but it definitely doesn't hurt.

* First Principles. I've got em for damn near every domain at this point. Means you always know exactly how to get back on track. Blocking & Tackling.

* The bar. It's always there, through thick and thin, to show you the way.

* Getting an appointment at DMV. #2 has been gone all summer, needs his license next week. The appointment wait is 6-8 weeks. Lucked out and got an appointment for next week, which only happens when someone cancels and you just happen to catch it.

Sun's Out!

Let's go!

@shrew I remember. Also saw that he took a helpful approach with the wasp situation. They seem like small things, but they are not. Wishing you a shitton more of all those positive things with your son.

@mermee Appreciate your recent reminder that we can always choose on what we focus. Very timely for me as I had let myself get caught up That focus determines so much of how we live.
