SPRING RECOMP 2021 - DAY 15
REST DAY

Not happy. Triggered by everything. Spent the last 12 hours alternately shivering under a pile of blankets and writhing in a fevered sweat. That was preceded by twelve insomniac hours curled in a ball with an ice pick jammed through my eye, like a migraine, only impervious to migraine drugs and accompanied by a sinus infection. Interspersed with bouts of spontaneous weeping to the beauty of Russian figure skating, which for incomprehensible reasons now headlines the utubes feed. I haven't been this sick since, uh, oh wait, the last time I took a fuckin Pfizer product.

So I'm going to try this, though I am surely not feeling it a bit...

This morning I am most thankful for -

* French Press full of Fresh Ground French Roast
* Feeling well enough to give a fuck about coffee
* Front Squats up, minutes pre-vaxx
* Giving myself permission for an extended, gentle, leisurely vaxx recovery
* Nothing having fallen apart, except in my head, but other than that, nada
* Clean dishes, clean sink, trash pulled
* Inside skirt, on sale at $3.91/pound!?!
* Man Yams - whole 40# carton of those bad boys for like $13 bucks, none under a pound
* Impending sun - sky's gray, but the birds know what's up!
* NOT being triggered by Pop, somehow....
* The revelation - true or not - that the severity of one's adverse vaxx reaction is strongly positively correlated with the strength of one's immune system. Ha!
* The understanding that engagement with FS diet warriors would be as productive as engagement with one's Ex, and the wherewithal to STFU when shouted down in ignorance
* Yerba Prima psyllium husk fiber - for that gut/butt connection! Why blather on about diet ideology when you can take a big fat dumper instead!?!
* a momentarily quiet house
* the prospect of a clean shave and a hot shower

So there we go! I certainly feel better!

Timed my last lift immediately pre-vaxxx (and on like 14 hours recovery) to minimize downtime. Front squats up, although I don't recall the (unimpressive) numbers. Missed my overhead press by a rep. Vaxx 2.0. Food. Then sick as a dog.

Chunky Monkey 2.0 was a significant improvement. Calories down more than 50%. 71g protein. Still too caloricaly dense at 1000k per quart, but that can be solved by killing the walnuts. Also too creamy, so less xanthan and guar gum.

Rest day yesterday. Ate ad libitem, which came in around 1000k.

Giving myself a full day off today. Back to full practice with flex work etc. tomorrow. Back under the bar Sunday. No rush.

Sun just came out!

Let's go!

Didn’t even have a sore arm after my 2nd Pfizer shot. But then, I’m 70...older folks apparently are tougher than you young whipper snappers. ...glad you’re coming out of it... 😷

For what it's worth, my infectious disease friend was excited when I told her I didn't feel well after my shot. Your description would probably put her over the edge into ecstasy. It means you were either previously exposed and your body already recognizes it, you have a really great immune system, or both. So congrats!

2 Moderna shots here. First one no reaction at first. NOW I have severe pain in shoulder joint-upper back-bicep-moving down my left arm and limited range of motion, nothing helps-heat, cold, Tylenol. Going to an orthopedic specialist on Tuesday. Second shot-quite under the weather for a day or so. Fever, fatigue. Except for the arm, all is well now. Glad to hear you're back on your feet. French press is always something to be grateful for. My appreciation goes daily to my Nespresso. Great day to you.

I'm gonna agree with Katsolo's infectious disease friend. ;) Such a huge response is a good sign that your immune system is locked and loaded. To those who don't have a response at all, that doesn't mean the vx isn't doing its job - everyone reacts differently. I'm a vaccinator for my local health department, and the schpiel I give goes thru the list of possible side effects and ends with "...Or you could have no side effects at all. Seems to be the luck of the draw!" Everyone always hopes for the latter. 😂

I had the virus last June and diarrhea for 10 days. Wife was so sick she wanted to die. Bothe had Moderna shots 6 wks ago. I had no effects; she had fever and inflammation at injection site for a week. Different strokes for different folks, for sure. Both 78 yo, she with no health probs; me with stage 3/4 CKD, a-fib, T-2 diabetes.

Vaccines are the single most impactful tool we have for the control and prevention of infectious disease. The side effects may be gnarly, but are so much more preferable to the disease itself, and to the continued threat to the population that preventable diseases represent. We are incredibly blessed to have them at our disposal. Almost never are there opportunities to be so directly altruistic to literally all of humankind with such a low cost in terms of time and effort.

with respect to the 🐒 , take it easy on the xanthan and guar gum. I use 1/2 of my 1/4 tsp (not Tbsp) per batch and I only use one or the other. too much bloat for me otherwise. it doesn't seem to cause flatulence, just bloat (for me) but it's uncomfortable if you use too much.

Jimmie, sorry you're not feeling good, but then you know it will be over soon. Another appreciated post. 👍 I didn't know about the side effects strong immune system correlation. I received second on Wednesday and so far only swollen lymph nodes, as opposed to first shot sick for days. Be well and thanks for the humor even though you're not feeling great. 👍

Gosh, that sounds terrible. Glad you are feeling better today jp, but I can't be completely mad bc weeping at Russian figure skating is a powerful personal growth experience. I finally got my appointments today. First one is Monday. Pretty happy about it.

My whole family has been vaccinated. None of us have grown a tail or horns yet. Hubby and I got ours back in february so been 2 months. My son got his in January (moderma) because he works at the hospital, he had hot flashes and chills for a couple of days but no fever and never missed any work. We are thankful for the vaccine. We had 4 family members die from covid the first 2 weeks of January. one had shiggles, 2 caught it while in the hospital for other issues, and one from COPD.

I had the second Pfizer shot last Tuesday. Then had a heart attack on Saturday morning. Not sure if the 2 are related. Rushed to the hospital and now I am a member of the Cardiac Stint club! Just Thankful I am still here.

Thanks for getting vaccinated. I hope the side effects don't last too long...
